Congratulations! You made it! You made the decision to invest in your outdoor space by investing in brand spanking new outdoor cushions and they look great! You’re extremely happy with your styling skills and your friends and family won’t stop complimenting you about them. Ok, now that you have done the hard part it’s time to protect your investment by using the following tips and techniques to ensure your outdoor cushions maintain their original glow!

Protecting Your Outdoor Cushions From The Sun

The collections created by Salt Sun Sand have been developed to withstand the harsh elements of the Australian environment. Each range has been SGS tested ensuring each cushion can withstand up to 800 hours of UV exposure and will not promote mildew growth if allowed to dry directly after exposure to the elements.  Every technology has been implemented to ensure the longevity of each cushion but it’s important to minimise exposure where possible as increased exposure to the Sun could lead to fading. Investing in covers for your outdoor furniture and cushions will minimise UV exposure and ensure that your cushions last for years to come. If covers seem too labour intensive then a spray on fabric guard can be applied to help prevent your outdoor cushions from fading. Lastly, storing your cushions in a covered, dry area will also aid in protecting them well into the future.

Protecting Your Outdoor Cushions From The Rain

Water-resistant fabric is designed to minimise the amount of moisture able to pass through your outdoor cushions. This barrier is designed to protect and minimise but will not stop water from soaking the foam insert. It’s important to position your outdoor cushions on their ends to encourage natural drainage and to activate the quick drying properties of the foam inner. If you allow moisture to reside in the foam and fabric it can lead to mould and mildew growth.

Cleaning Your Outdoor Cushions

  1. Brush off any loose dirt or surface contaminates that may have accumulated.
  2. Remove cover gently by unzipping and gently removing the inner from the outer fabric layer.
  3. Submerge the fabric cover in a mild soapy water solution like Napisan and allow the concentrate to go to work.
  4. Gently remove excess water and allow to air dry in a cool, shaded position.

*For difficult stain removal, we recommend Sunlight Soap or the equivalent to work the affected areas. It’s important to hand wash only as machine washing could cause damage to the structure and seams of the cushion cover.
